Centennial is often called the Super Cascade — a hop with a similar citrus-and-floral personality but noticeably more intensity and bittering power. Released in 1990, it quickly became a cornerstone of American IPA brewing and famously anchors some of the most iconic IPAs ever made.

With alpha acids of 10%, Centennial is a true dual-purpose hop: strong enough to carry the entire bittering charge of an IPA, yet clean and expressive enough to shine in whirlpool and dry hop additions.

Usage Recommendations

For a 5-gallon batch, 0.5–1 oz at 60 minutes provides a solid bittering foundation, with 1–2 oz split between late boil, whirlpool, and dry hop for full citrus expression. Centennial performs exceptionally well as a single hop — one variety can cover every addition in an IPA.

Pair it with a clean, neutral yeast like a classic American ale strain to keep its lemon-floral aroma front and center.
